Closing in on the Kimberley

Tom's Prado came to us with a basic AGM Dual Battery System with a Redarc SBI12 Dual Battery Solenoid with jump start switch. This had been in the Prado for years and with a Kimberley trip in the planning, Tom knew the existing system just wouldn't keep up running two 40L Engels, one being used solely as a freezer.
Still functioning well enough otherwise, we retained the original dual battery system under the bonnet so it could be used as a spare battery in case of emergencies, to jump start his Prado. A neat bit of assurance, especially when going as remote as the Kimberley.

To keep Tom's Engels working efficiently, plus options for charging accessories such as mobile phone etc., we built and installed the most compact model in our range of The Lithium Box (TLB), TLB100-40SM.
Thanks to it's condensed size, TLB100-40SM fit perfectly in the rear with both fridges, on top of the draws.
TLB100-40SM features a blue 50A Anderson plug in the rear which runs through the Redarc Core 40 DC Charger mounted on the front of the TLB. This will charge TLB100-40SM at over 40A's per hour whilst travelling, which means that if Tom used 60Ah overnight, it would take less than a two hour drive to be back to 100%, whilst still powering the two fridges.
We mounted a 130W (9.5A) Solar Panel to the roof rack, positioning it closer to the front of the vehicle to allow room for a spare tyre and Maxtrax, and then ran the wiring down into the Prado, which plugs directly into the yellow 50A Anderson Solar Input on the TLB100-40SM. Whilst the 130W panel charges at up to 9.5A per hour, it's not big enough to power the two fridges on its own, but certainly keeps the battery a lot fuller when stationery and gives the Prado the opportunity to top it up faster when driving.
